Microsoft Access
Introduction
Ignia has a wealth of experience developing and supporting Microsoft Access database systems for the Perth market.
Full Range of Solutions
Our team of highly skilled database programmers can build any database system to suit the needs of your business from a small-scale Microsoft Access database right up to a large-scale enterprise level SQL Server database system.
Is Microsoft Access the right tool for me?
Microsoft Access is typically used for small-scale projects where the number of users and size of data is relatively small. The advantage of Microsoft Access over its bigger brother SQL Server is that Microsoft Access allows us to very quickly create the screens and reports to enter and maintain your data (using the Microsoft Access Application Layer.) This differs from SQL Server which is solely a database (a series of related tables) and so can't provide an interface to maintain your data. Because Microsoft Access allows us to quickly build the screens and reports to maintain your data it is a quick and inexpensive option.
What are the drawbacks of using Access?
The main drawbacks are scalability (Access can only handle approximately 1 Gigabyte of data without having serious issues) and lack of strong security. Access provides no real security; a database can easily be copied onto a USB key or CD (with no trace) by anyone who's given access to the system. For example if your business keeps a record of its customers in an Access database when an account manager leaves to work for a competitor there is little you can do to prevent them from taking a complete copy of your customer database. This being the case Access should only be used where data security is not an issue. In some cases it is possible to get the best of both worlds by using the rapid development interface of Access combined with a secure SQL Server database back-end.
Ignia has a team of specialist Microsoft Access and SQL Server database programmers who can help recommend whether Access is the right choice for your business. Because we build both Access and SQL Server database systems we provide unbiased advice on which platform is best suited to your requirements. Time To Upgrade
Microsoft Access based solutions are very common in Perth, due to the enormous value for money that this small database system provides.
Ignia has many clients in Perth and we have created several solutions that pushed the boundaries of what Micrsoft Access is capable of.
As our clients have grown, like many companies that have benefited from the economic boom, we have been there to support them and take their business systems to the next level.
Sometimes it's simply best to start small, let Ignia develop your system in Microsoft Access so you can begin processing information more efficiently. When it comes time for something bigger, then Ignia can migrate Microsoft Access data to SQL Server and you won't loose a thing.
If you have an existing Microsoft Access database that's started to slow down, or your becoming worried about the security of your data, then even if Ignia didn't develop your system, we will happily discuss your upgrade issues and perform an upgrade for you.
The opportunity exists to continue using your Microsoft Access input screens and reports, even after the data has been moved to SQL Server. But screens and reports can be redeveloped in Microsoft.NET in order to leverage the true power and speed of Microsoft SQL Server, which would completely free you of any constraints existing within your current Micrsoft Access based solution.
